December 2015 Events in and Around Mission, TX

It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas in Mission, TX – even if it doesn’t feel like it. At Bentsen Palm and all around town everyone is getting into the holiday spirit. If you want to join in on the fun and festivities add these December events to your calendar.

Christmas in the Park

Start the holiday off with two fun-filled days at the Christmas in the Park event. The Candlelight Posada procession will be on Friday night and Saturday everything will be in full swing before and after the Holiday Parade. The event also coincides with 3rd Annual Tamale Fest, which supports the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen.

When: December 4th 5pm-11pm, December 5th 11am-12am,

McAllen Holiday Parade

This holiday parade is so big it has its own website. Instead of being held during the day, the McAllen Holiday Parade happens at night so that the illuminated floats can be seen in all their glory. There will also be giant helium balloons, celebrity guests including grand marshal Esai Morales and local talent for entertainment. The event has been planned so that everyone can enjoy Christmas in the Park after the parade.

When: Saturday, December 5th, 6pm-11pm

Dance Along With the Nutcracker Ballet

The Nutcracker is one of the most entertaining holiday traditions, even for people that don’t regularly watch the ballet. Since 1972 the Rio Grande Valley Ballet troupe has dazzled and delighted audience members of all ages with their rendition of this classic Christmas story. If you miss the Rio Grande Valley Ballet’s performance you can still catch the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker production on December 20th.

When: December 5th and 6th, 7pm and 2pm

Where: McAllen Civic Center Auditorium

Big Bang Christmas Concert in the Park

Classic and contemporary Christmas songs are all that’s on the set list at the annual Big Band Christmas Concert in the Park. The family-friendly affair will have everyone singing along to their favorite holiday melodies.

When: December 10th, 6pm-7:30pm

14 Annual Christmas for Kids Program

Come out and show support for one of the best causes of the holiday season. Each year the McAllen Police Department hosts a Christmas party for local children in need. The events includes a small parade, musical entertainment, a Santa meet and greet as well as goodie bags and toys for the kids.

When: December 19th, 8:30am-2pm
