Fun Home Craft Ideas the Whole Family Can Enjoy

February 18th, 2016

When you’re touring Mission, TX homes for sale you’ll notice that they are staged beautifully, but they are just waiting for the personal touch of a new family. After you’ve found your piece of McAllen area real estate it’s the perfect time to enjoy a few home craft projects with the entire family. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite ideas that are easy for crafty adults and kids.

Papier-Mâché Marquee Letter

Add your initials to each room with a craft project that only takes a few hours and gives you a way to reuse old Christmas ornaments. This idea from Country Living only requires five things:

  •  Papier-mâché letters from Joanne Fabrics
  • Craft knife
  • Paint
  • Gold Christmas ball ornaments
  • Hot glue

Carefully cut the front off of the letter revealing the hollow space in the center. Next paint the entire letter. Hot glue the ornaments in the center of the hollow space for a look that’s reminiscent of a movie theater marquee.

Bring the Outdoors in With an Organic Curtain Rod

If you are hanging curtains with round rings or grommets in your new home, why not incorporate a part of region’s famous nature? All you need is a strong, slim branch to put in place of a metal rod to create an instant connection to the outside. There are plenty of options along the hike and bike trail at Bentsen Palm. Once you’ve found the perfect stick saw it down to size, leaving a little bit of overhang on each side. Install U-shaped drapery brackets so that the stick can rest on top without falling. In a matter of minutes you’ve added a unique part of the Rio Grande Valley to your interior decor.

Display Your Own Art

No other artist can compare to your kids. You can create your own home gallery for all of their artwork for just a few dollars per picture. Choose the pictures that you want to display. Next find blank canvases that are slightly larger than the paintings. Then paint all of the canvases a single color on the top and around the sides. Cut a pieces of corrugated plastic to size so that they can be taped to the underside of the canvases. Once everything is dry use push pins to affix the paintings to the canvas. This will tie all the pictures together and give the gallery a polished look.

Make Your Plant Pots Really Shine

A touch of gold really pops out among the native plants of Mission, TX. All it takes is a few sheets of gold foil to transform old herb and flower pots into a glittering piece of outdoor or indoor decor. She Knows has put together step-by-step instructions on how to do this easy project at home. The best part is the application doesn’t have to be perfect. Leaving it a little rough will give the pot a rustic, weathered look.
