Springtime in the Rio Grande Valley is well known for its beautiful warm sunny days, perfect for exploring the area and enjoying all of its great activities.
Discover All the Rio Grande Valley’s Amazing Parks – You don’t have to travel far to immerse yourself in nature at Bentsen Palm. Right next door you’ll find the beautiful 760-acre Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, World Birding Headquarters, and the National Butterfly Center. But, if you feel like venturing a little further, you’ll discover even more of the incredible nature and wildlife surrounding this area. Plan a tour of all the amazing parks within a short drive of Bentsen Palm, including Quinta Mazatlan, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and Falcon State Park.
Water Ride Thrills, Chills and Spills – Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark and Resort in South Padre Island offers fun for the whole family with a 25-acre waterpark paradise with nearly two dozen world-class attractions, including 13 indoor and outdoor water slides, multiple river systems, and beaches. Just an hour and a half drive from our community, you can make plans to spend the day or stay for several with one of the resort’s lodging packages.
Get to Know Your South Texas History – Get out of the sun for a bit and dive into the Rio Grande Valley’s rich history while exploring the area’s best museums including the South Texas History Museum, Mission Historical Museum, La Lomita Mission, International Museum of Art & Science, and Costumes of the America’s Museum. History buffs will love seeing all of the artifacts, photographs, documents, books, maps and more that tell the amazing story of this part of the Lone Star State.
Kickback at the Beach – South Texas is known for its beautiful beaches, which is why spring breakers have flocked to the longest stretch of beach in Texas, South Padre Island, for decades. However, if you prefer to find a less crowded area to dip your toes in the sand during the coveted spring break season, head to Boca Chica State Park just 90 miles from Bentsen Palm. This is the southernmost stretch of beach that is also part of the U.S. and is separated from Mexico by the Rio Grande River and detached from South Padre Island. The island is home to a few stilt homes, but there are no park facilities or modern amenities. It’s just a great place to relax and listen to the waves or enjoy your favorite beach activities.
Lasso Some Fun at the Rodeo – The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show has a long-standing tradition dating back to 1939 and ranks as one of the top ten in the State. You’ll find something fun for everyone at the 74th RGV Livestock Show, including a rodeo, concerts, horse show competitions, a carnival midway, BBQ cookoff, competitive and interactive exhibits, and more.
