It is a safe nesting ground for the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle and a haven for 380 bird species. The island offers several beautiful beaches to choose from, including Bird Island Basin, one of the nation’s top windsurfing destinations; Malaquite Beach, a great place to see hundreds of baby sea turtles hatch between June and August, and if you want complete solitude head down to the southern part of the island, where you can find a quiet beach spot to relax.
