Connecting You to the Outdoors
Parks & Trails

Bentsen Palm offers over 20 miles of interconnected hike-and-bike trails that bring you right into the heart of South Texas wildlife. Carefully routed to showcase the region’s abundant bird species and native animals, these paths have become one of our community’s most beloved features.
Your journey begins at the World Birding Center Headquarters parking lot in Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, then winds past the entrance to Retama Village and Tanglewood. You’ll cross a new bridge over the Mission Main Canal, then follow a 1.5-mile corridor between the canal and undisturbed native habitat—ideal for spotting wildlife. The final stretch carries you through brush and prairie before arriving at the serene Mission Nature Park.
