Rhodes Enterprises, developers of Bentsen Palm, donated 175 acres to contribute to construction of the multi-million dollar World Birding Center Headquarters, a grand addition to Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. With exhibit halls, multimedia stations, bird art, field guide galleries, interpretation and exhibits, this visitors’ facility is truly state of the art.

Tram service through Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park is available through the World Birding Center Headquarters.

The World Birding Headquarters features:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) exhibit hall

  • Meeting room

  • Nature workshops

  • Informative programs

  • Keynote speakers

  • Nature experts

  • Gift shop

  • 2-story observation tower for a birds-eye view of the canopy and Mexico

  • 2 enclosed bird blinds and birding wall

  • More than 7 miles of trails with bird feeding stations and water features

The World Birding Center is a network of nine distinctly different birding sites set along a 120-mile historic river road. Each site of the World Birding Center has its own attractions for both the first time visitor and expert birder.

Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley is home to many species of tropical birds you won’t see anywhere else in the U.S. Species of birds often spotted here include:

  • Green jays

  • Plain chachalacas

  • Ferruginous Pygmy-owl

  • Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet,

  • Clay-colored Thrush

  • Hook-billed Kite

  • Gray Hawk

Migrating Swainson’s and Broad-winged Hawks are a popular spring and fall spectacle.

The World Birding Center Headquarters and network of sites promise a year-round adventure in the richest birding area north of the Mexican border.
